[attr="class","likedo"] [attr="class","likedotitle"] [attr="class","likedotitle2"]Spring Festival Appeals Round! [attr="class","likedoinfo"]The stage was set. The classical and iconic Floating Stage had gotten a complete and new makeover to prepare it for the Lunar New Year, and for the coming Contests. There was a sense of duty and tradition that came with the renovations - they had to get them perfect. This was the Year of the Monkey, the Lunar New Year. They simply had to make the best impression they could, both for the sake of their city, so they could mark themselves as the proud city they were, and for the sake of the very tradition that they honored. Still, as the crowd began to pour into the stalls and seats, the "ooohs" and "aahhhs" clearly told the stage designers that they had done a good job. The Contestants were all brought out in a procession, to the sound of traditional Lunar New Years music, showcasing them to the crowd who clapped excitedly, hoping for a thrilling show. The cameras that broadcasted the contest to the countless people who were watching on the air were eating up the contestants. Eventually, the presenter walked out too, a traditional dress on her body, draping elegantly in a tide of red, the Qi Pao a clear mark of the Lunar New Year. There was a fine necklace, with a small golden monkey-shaped pendant hanging from her neck, and with it, she was the living form of the New Year, a perfect choice for a presenter. "Greetings, everyone, and welcome to our long-awaited Spring Festival Contest, here on Faraday City's Floating Stage! As you all well know, the Spring Festival Contest is a celebration where contestants are invited to welcome in the Lunar New Year with dazzling performances and glorious displays! Can these performers appeal to our judges, and demonstrate the same cleverness and wit that the Year of the Monkey represents?" She announced in a very thrilled tone, the crowd eating up the hype as the cheering and clapping increased. "This is their chance to make their impression! After this, we'll see how they fare in the battling stage, and finally, they'll show off in the performance stage! But that's only what's to come - with our first contestant coming up, the Spring Festival Contest officially begins~!" As she said this, she motioned the first contestant to come up, offering the microphone and moving aside, letting the appeal round begin. [attr="class","likedosub"]Notes - Please make a single post making your appeal - your appeal is your chance to make your first impression and demonstrate your mastery over the theme of the contest. Remember to check Horizon's Coordination Guide for details!
- Remember the theme of the Spring Festival Contest is auspiciousness, bounty, and happiness!

'IF YOU HAVE THE RESOLVE, BECOME THE KING'
猴 Year of the Monkey That was all that ran through the blonde's head as he awaited within the back of his dressing room. Upon the top of his dresser laid an assortment of accessories and three fraternal coloring's; Blue, gold, and white had adorn the young male's chest and face. Pegging the question on exactly what could the colorful paintings have created? But of course––well––that would be deciphered soon enough during the performance. "Pom! Pom!" A hired makeup artist would tie around the forehead of Aipom a white hachimaki, with two golden bells adorning the end of his tail. On his little animal body had also been a sleeveless opened happi. "Settle down Aipom, will be out in a bit," he reassured his pokémon with a calming smile, "you're so excitable." Rosario laughed. Upon Rosario's own forehead had also been a hachimaki, along with a closed short-sleeved happi that would don the top half of his body next to a momohi, being the color white, adorning the lower half of his body as loose-fitting pants. Barefooted and nothing more, it was almost time for the show to begin. "I'm counting on you, Aipom!" Rosario chimed. "Now summoning to the stage our first grand contestant, Rosario Grandier!" echoed the announcer. Rosario would lightly high-five his primate partner's left paw. "Together," he rose his bachi, which had been a slightly thick beige wooden stick, that could clearly be seen in the left palm of his hand, "we'll do all that we can to win this, 'kay?" He assured his partner once more. An with that Rosario would call Aipom back into his pokeball. Once inside, he would place over Aipom's ball a ball capsule. In the center of the ball capsule, where the button upon a pokéball resided, a banana seal would be placed in front of it. "Let's give'em hell," he whispered. Running barefooted out of his room and heading toward the stage, the show was now just about to begin.
Behind the curtains of the contest he heard the roaring crowds scream. Such elegance, benevolence, and joy, the aura he had felt was just exactly like his time onstage when singing to his fans. It was rejuvenating! Rosario's heart created a thumping like noise that would coincide with the beat of the crowd. Amazing, he thought. "You know him as the the songster of Unova now beginning his next debut in Veria! Representing the "grand" in Grandier, here is our first contestant, Rosario Grandier, and together with his partner...!!"
Running out onto a stage that stood at the height of four meters. There upon the front center of the stage atop of a stand resided a large ō-daiko that blocked Rosario's view of the crowd, but not theirs of him. Tossing over the head of the ō-daiko Aipom's ball, he would exclaim, "Fire Punch!" Simultaneously tossing three bachi sticks, that he would pull from behind his waist, into the air. "Aipom!" shouted the announcer and Rosario together.
As his pokéball would dance about the air, a flashing white light would manifest from the capsuled ball. Pouring out of the ball had been a bundle of bananas that would create the face of a monkey altogether midair, but it would all fall upon the ground and formed the body of none other than Aipom! Standing upon his tail, he would wave to the crowd as his face would have the kanji " 猴", which meant the year of the monkey, upon both the left of his cheek and the right. The dangling of his bell would be heard soon after as he would jump onto the top of his little paws, conducting a handstand, and caught the three sticks that Rosario had thrown which his third hand-like tail. Juggling them midair. Rosario had uttered his first command, Fire Punch, but he knew that he wasn't suppose to activate until the first beat of a drum would drop. While juggling the three bachi sticks, the bell would continue to jingle as Aipom would happily do a dance while conducting a handstand. Rosario watched as Aipom would begin his first act, meaning that it was his turn to begin the signal. Removing the happi that adorned the top portion of his body off of him and onto the ground. Painted upon his back, in gold, was the kanji " 猴," year of the monkey. But upon his chest, painted in blue, was yet another kanji "鼓童," (Kodō) meaning heartbeat in Japanese; and lastly, in white, the year of the monkey kanji once more. Pulling out two bachi's once again, he would begin to bang, with the left bachi stick first, his very first beat. DUM!Struck the first beat. An with that fire would light around Aipom's hand-like tail. Juggling the bachi upon his now flaming tail. They would catch fire. With the banging of the giant drums roaring about the entire area, Rosario would raise the right palm of his hand, which held a bachi stick, into the air. Now banging with but only his left. "Double Team!" He shouted. Now banging once more with two hands once again. Continuing to juggle, Aipom would create four copies of himself instantly. The shadow figures dancing in a circle around Aipom, his tail no more lit a blaze, as he juggled the flaming bachi sticks. Continuing to do his little dance while conducting a handstand, the bells that hung upon his tail would continue to jingle throughout the entire arena. The ceremonial dance would now cease, the copies disappearing for the time being. While Rosario banged upon the drums, he would exclaim to his Aipom, "Fireworks!" Tossing the three burning bachi sticks into the air, Aipom would push himself off of the ground and onto his two feet. Exuding monkey-like noises, he would jump into the air and perform the move Swift by swinging his hand-like tail that would manifest the shooting stars. The stars would swarm around the flaming bachi's as though they were going to do nothing, but the stars would collide with the burning bachi sticks. Destroying them the minute after their collison which would creating bright golden fireworks in the air. Continuing his drum banging, Rosario would shout raising his left bachi stick holding palm this time. "Now, Aipom, dance!" With just one banging, Rosario would call out Aipom's next command. The purple primate would begin to dance, his bell jingling and jingling with each step taken. During his ceremonial dancing to the beat of the drums, dark clouds began to form over his head as rain would begin to pour right after. Continuing to dance on beat, Rosario would cease his banging for a second. Arose both his right and his left bachi sticks as one, and slammed upon the drum symbolizing yet another cue. Instantaneously he would shout right after, "Double Thunder!" With the roaring boom of the drum, Aipom would use double team. Creating six copies of himself this time around that would encase him inside the center of a circle that the six formed. Dancing around, Aipom would than use the follow-up Thunder, creating a bright crackling lightning rod in the center of his pouring rain. Aipom would continue to dance as the jingling bells that donned his person shook, an shook, and shook away! The elegant brilliance of the lightning coating his entire being. The six copies would disperse right after the engulfment of the powerful lightning that struck, simultaneously on beat with Rosario's drumming, the Aipom. "Cease, the thunder! Agility and Swift!" Rosario said as the drumming would pause then continue. It was time for the big finishing move. Using Agility to help hone his reflexes and skills, he would dance about in the rain. Cartwheeling onto a handstand and pushing himself off of the ground to do a rolling flip midair as he would curl into a ball and land upon the tail of his hand waving to the crowd. "Last Resort!" Having used all of his moves, Aipom would push himself into midair as he would gyrate in the air like that of an elegant dancer, thank's to Kirlia for teaching him. As Aipom's tail trailed behind during his beautiful spin, his tail would trail behind like the wind creating a several stars with the help of his tail. The stars would revolve around his entire body, helping him stay afloat for just a few more seconds as he would fall to the ground and land on his tail once again. But after having land on his tail, the stars would begin to fall upon the ground. Mimicking that of shooting stars. The crowd would cheer with amazement, awe'ing due to the prettiness that shown. Laughter due to Aipom's silliness, and wow's due to the auspicious pose he added in the end. He would raise his hand's as Rosario's drumming would cease at the same time. Both of them raising their hands to the sky and bowing before the crowd. Overzealous cheering was heard, radiating from the crowd as they finished. The rain would cease from continuing to pour as the duo would proudly bow to the crowd that they performed for once again. With the ending of such a performance, Rosario only wondered if that were enough to get him to the next round. MUSIC: DRUM BANGINGOUTFIT Described in the post. TAGS @- - - OOC: - - - WORDS: ---. |

Arietta didn't shy from the spotlight. Arietta thrust herself out there. She swallowed all of her misgivings and ate them for breakfast. There was a time for nervousness and embarrassment.. and the stage was not that place.
The moment Arietta, stage name Little Aria, was called and came out.. it was obvious standing out was important. You would remember her. She was the one wearing the monkey suit.
It was cute and soft and round, with a focus on a plush and minimalist mascot look. With a cute almost emoticon looking face, and it just looked so happy and peppy and cute. It was lovable. Like she needed to be.
Of course her Pokemon was following. Her adorable Mawile had a cute little pair of monkey ears on and a monkey tail, but that was it. Her and her Pokemon were practically prancing out onto the stage. Happy to see the crowd. It wouldn't matter if one of them started to chuckle as a few of them probably would. When she got to the stage she would wave at them all for a moment before speaking, giving the impression she was so excited to see them all.
She took the head off, revealing her bright pink head and bright eyes. She smiled. "Hey everyone! Hi!" she was a natural in the spotlight, looking like she loved it. When any noise died down.. she would start her little speech and put the head back on.
"Me and Mawile thought long and hard about what the Year of the Monkey meant to us." her and Mawile nodded to animate this. "We thought about the brightness!" Her Mawile would blast out a Charge Beam at this, firing it towards the air.
"The resilience!" An Iron Defense, very visible and strong.. they would both take a matching posture, legs out.. looking ready to take on everything.
"The passion!" and with this, Mawile would screech out a practice noise, trying to emulate an Infernape in particular, and send out a passionate Flamethrower attack behind Arietta. Arietta's own words seemed practically like screeching, and spoke almost like someone desperate. Mawile would hang this Flamethrower, keeping it burning as she spoke the next chunk of her speech.
"We wanted to make a monkey friend honest.. that didn't seem right. It just.. just seemed wrong, we couldn't do it! Bringing a monkey out here and making it dance for us, put on a show for us.. when it's the star! That seemed so sad. That's not the real spirit of the monkey at all! They should be out there, in the wild, like untamed fire! Eeek! Eeek!"
She carried real emotion through her words, making it obvious she really did believe this. She had exaggerated the last bit to the affect she felt it needed and after it was done.. Mawile finally stopped it's burning attack. She let her words hang there.
"We hope you guys have a fun time, and find the monkey in you all tonight too!" she waved at the crowd again, little mascot monkey looking like she lived to get the crowd going.
She toddled back off.. feeling a bit of her own wit and cunning spark in her mind as she did. She didn't know how many competitors would use monkey's, and honestly it didn't even matter how many of them actually went out in captured them to match the theme. She wanted to sink her idea in the crowd and the judges and make them question them all. Without being aggressive for a moment, portrayed as a sweet and bubbly, heartfelt little lady, she wanted to throw all of her competitors off from the get go.
She hoped no one was going to forget that.. and no one would forget the girl who came in a monkey suit.
Not being forgotten was the point, after all. |

000 "If there is one thing i do not tolerate Its messing with my pokemon! Now this was gonna be...different.
Hiding in the waiting room as the other contestants took to the stage, Yumi could feel the nerves flooding her, resting in the costume she'd prepared which did nothing to calm her down, if anything constantly looking down to the costume in hand was just making her more and more nervous. Not only had she signed up for this thing with little to no thought about it, but here she was, possibly about to offend the crowd from the moment she walked on, forcing her to lose the appeals round cause they wouldn't wanna look at the rest of her routine, forcing her to lose the whole contest, forcing her to be a laughing stock on TV, forcing her to....
Aw crud. This was the exact train of thought that made her leave Nue...Damn Brook making her constantly overthink things!
"Sa-sa sawk."
In his own little costume, Ko-ken stood strong beside the resting Yumi, his arms folded tight around his chest. While he may not have understood why on earth Yumi was doing this, he did understand that doing well was something that was important to her, and thus he, and a few other pokemon, had been training specifically for the appeal round. It was unusual for them to say the least, but it was a new experience in the end, so there wasn't much to complain about.
"Yeah yeah, i know, we're up soon." Letting out a sigh as she rubbed her temple. Just hope this goes better than I'm expecting...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"And next we have a...Miss Yumi Tasukai. A new comer to the contest zone apparently, and a newcomer to Veria. She's an old competitor in the johto, Kanto, and Nue leagues, so let's hope her skills as a trainer translate well shall we?~ Everybody give it up for the - whoa!"
The lady's words were interupted as a sawk, his Gi seeming to have been changed by a marking on the back, grabbed her legs and lifted her up straight, walking onward and taking her off the stage, placing her a way and holding a hand in her face as she attempted to speak, silencing her with a stern glare and a stance that held some sort of authority, walking back behind the stage and returning after a fair few seconds, holding a banner much similar to those that ancient armies would use to lead their troops, the marking of a rooster painted in a thick, vibrant red. Those who tilted their heads would even be able to see the same marking was printed on the back of the Sawk's Gi, a mark he seemed to wear proudly as he turned his back to the crowd, implanting the banner as his "commander" followed suit, a Blaziken with a long, proud stride, wearing her hair in a low ponytail, a cloak around her shoulders, similarly marked with the pattern of a rooster, though she turned her front to the crowd, standing tall, her beak upturned as she looked down upon them all like peasants.
Reaching inside his Gi, the Sawk withdrew cards from his Gi, lifting them over his head and displaying the words to the crowd, cameras focusing on the words and showing them on screens so those further back in the crowd, or those watching on TV, could see the words he was displaying.
"ALL HAIL BLAZIKEN
LORD OF THE ROOSTERS"
-card flip-
"THE TRUE VICTOR
OF THE ANCIENT RACE"
Immediately there were sounds of confusion from the crowd, some of them even seemed to boo the Blaziken as she stood their, proud and tall, her glare focusing on those who would boo her and deny her "right" to call this, and any other year, hers. A roaring squawk sounded from her beak, her arms jutting out from her cloak, and an intense heat emitting from the stage with the power of her heat wave. It certainly wouldn't hurt anyone, but her power would be known, filtering over the crowd and forcing them to weaken before her.
"Blaziken!"
As the heat dissipated, the Sawk and his lord Blaziken turned their eyes to a rafter lining the top of the stage, in view of the crowd and cameras, the tail of a Monferno igniting and lighting up the Trainer and Monferno who had snuck their way up their, the Monferno wearing a cape rather than the cloak of the Blaziken, the red headed trainer adorned with fuzzy monkey ears, a tail tucked into the belt of her shorts, and some thick, rounded monkey gauntlets styled after the Monferno's own arms.
At this point she was thinking she may have gona little overboard for the appeals...but hey, the show must go on right?
"Do you not recall that it was the monkey who beat you in that most ancient of races? He may not have been first, but he certainly holds this year, such is his right!" Her Monferno gave out a confident cry, pounding his chest, the pride and cheer clear on his face."To deny him his earned right? Now isn't aren't you a misbehaving little rooster?~"
Without another word the two leaped from the rafters, the Monferno landing with his fist pounding into the stage floor, his other hand shooting out, a burst of flame igniting the banner of the rooster and burning it to ash, a cocky smirk on his maw as he puffed out his chest towards the Blaziken, his arms folded confidently over his own chest. Yumi meanwhile landed in the arms of Ko-ken, a nervous smile on her face as she quietly apologized to the blue fighter in advance, flipping backwards in his arm and kicking across his face before landing on her own. With practice the sawk had been prepared for that attack so it didn't hurt, and now the Monferno and trainer took center stage, facing down the rooster and it's worshiper, Yumi holding out her hand to the crowd as she faced down the Sawk that was her partner.
"What do you say people! Shall we bring in the year of the monkey, and kick the rooster all the way to next year?~"
There was a brief moment were the crowd thought, before all but the most stern members, those who perhaps thought it best to respect the rooster, or even just the concept of the chinese calander as a whole rather than turn it into this performance. Still the crowd as a whole seemed to cheer on, and Yumi took on the role of "hero" with her Monferno, the two ducking and weaving around coreorgraphed moves from their partner, Yumi taking cheap, faked shots at K0-ken between his own, missing attacks. WIth the Monferno and the Blaziken however the battle was a lot faster an intricate, though still deligated to their own half of the stage, Blaze kicks of the Blaziken being met with blaze kicks of the Monferno, who, thanks to a little acting, seemed to be a lot stronger, as both Yumi and the Monferno pushed their partners in battle towards the ends of the stage, each delivering a mirrored kick to the Sawk and Blaziken respectfull to finally kick them out of View, the Crowd cheering louder as a puff of smoke, courtesy of her Froakie, appeared from each side of the stage to mark the defeat of those who belonged in the year to follow.
"And that, ladies and gentleman!" Yumi began, walking back to her Monferno who climbed upon her back, standing on her shoulders and lifting their hands into the air with a peace sign on opposing arms. "Is how Miss Yumi Tasukai Celebrates the Year of the monkey!"
Her Monferno slipping down her back into a piggyback position, Yumi held a proud smile, adrenaline pumping and her nerves obliterated from the internal heat of her own body as she waved to the crowd and made her way off the stage. "I hope you enjoy the rest of the appeals! HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERY BODY!"

Vinny took a large gulp. He could feel his arms getting heavy, his knees getting weaker and he felt his heart pounding harder and harder. From behind the stage he was one of the few and to be honest he felt pretty intimidated. He felt a bit out of he place, he thought that everyone else was a lot more experienced than him and he was just...there. Thankfully, even though he was nervous and spent the night before not eating anything due to how nervous he felt. He was wearing a colorful outfit, while it did look a little too big on him they were colors to compliment the theme. He wore a red leather jacket whose sleeves were a little to long for him and pair of simple blue jeans. The leather jacket was unzipped, a cartoony picture of a Pansage's face was on it. On his neck was a gold necklace, in the shape of a dollar sign. While the color looked gold and from far away it would look kind of decent in reality it was just a piece of cheap jewelry he found on the sidewalk one day. One more item was needed to add his whole outfit together an d that was a pair of equally 'gold' sunglasses. "Oh man..." Vinny said as he peeked out from behind the curtain. The act before him had finished, now it was time for him to go up. Vinny looked down at his own clothes, a lot more casual compared to the get up the pervious two competitors were in. Vinny sighed, if it were up to him he would keep the jacket buttoned up, but; his mom purchased it for him after he told her about the contest. Vinny gritted his teeth as remembered that other detail, the broadcast of the acts across the airwaves. As Vinny tensed up he started to take deep breathes to calm himself down. As he was doing this his Pansage, Salsa was right besides him, tapping his left leg to get his attention. Salsa had a different appearance as well. Her bush had been trimmed into the shape of a star, the 'main section' of the bush still being there. While the bush was a bit uneven at points thanks to Vinny's handy work, it didn't look bad for the most part. Aside from that Salsa herself was also wearing a gold pair of sunglasses and that was it. Salsa pointed to herself and signaled for him to 'relax'. Salsa had a point though, most of the crowd would focus on her and not Vinny. Vinny sighed upon being reassured by Salsa. But, now was not the time as Vinny was just about to be called up onto stage.
"And now for our next performer! Making his entrance onto the contest scene all the way from Unova is...the self declared 'Hip hop lord, 'Vinny Pugliesi!' the announcer called out. Vinny's heart stopped for a moment, he thought he told the announcers to call him but his 'stage persona' only! Then again, he was kind of stammering the whole time when he was talking to the register lady so that mayy have had something to do with it. Vinny would take out Salsa's Pokeball and return her to it momentarily, before grabbing a cheap looking portable radio. Vinny then walked out from behind the curtain, to stand in front of the middle of the stage. The audience would be...perplexed at seeing the boy alone on stage in a weird get up. "H-h-hello everyone!" Vinny managed to force out of his voice. "The year of the monkey is upon us and are reminded of someth-ing very important!" Vinny said again, trying his best to have his voice reach the crowd. "And that is to be happy!" Vinny said as he threw up Salsa's pokeball into the air. The pokeball then opened, revealing Salsa. Behind Salsa the pokeball's seal activated, making a small face of a Pansage in fireworks. The mini-fireworks display would last for a few seconds, before dissipating in the air. Salsa then landed onto the stage, smiling and waving to the crowd. The crowd's focus shifted to Salsa, intrigued by the hairstyle that she had. The act would get more wacky as Vinny would finally turn on the radio, playing a 'strange' tune for an act based of the year of the monkey. Vinny could only hope that the people of Faraday had a good sense of humor. "With the new year you have to reach for new heights!" Vinny shouted to the crowd. Salsa would then jump high into the air, performing a somersault before coming back down. "You need to BLAST through your tough challenges!" Vinny yelled out, a bit rushed and punching the air in front of him. The adrenaline was running through his body. Salsa would then reach into the middle of her bush, grabbing an handful of seeds. Salsa threw five seeds in front of Salsa and Vinny, smoke covering the duo momentarily. Afterwards the smoke would fade off, showing Salsa and Vinny with their arms crossed, smiling and full of energy. "N-no matter how tough it can get, there are always good things ahead!" Vinny and Salsa said (although Salsa said it in typical Pokespeech), doing some jumps in place, pumping themselves up and (hopefully) pumping up the crowd with them. Salsa would then take the center stage as Vinny took a backseat to the action. Salsa would get into position, one hand holding the rest of her body up as she started to break dance. The crowd was starting to get excited, cheering at the act Salsa was putting on. She would alternate with her arms, switching between left and right. Vinny would set down and watch Salsa, bobbing his head and looking towards the audience, hoping they were enjoying the dance. Vinny would join in half way, doing a little break dance of his own as well. While a bit sloppy, he was having fun with it as much as Salsa did. After a minute with the song reaching it's height Salsa and Vinny would finish their dance. After a little bit of spinning in place Salsa would turn to wink at the audience. Vinny followed suit, a wink and a smile. If one could get up closer they could see Vinny was blushing a bit and starting to sweat, but he was fine. He was having fun. "You need to find the fun in everything, I can assure you that it's there!" Vinny said as he reached into his pocket and pulled out two apples. Taking the two apples Vinny threw up into the air, which Salsa responded accordingly to. She jumped up into the air and using her skill and acrobatics, cut the apples into two pieces each in mid air. Salsa would then catch the pieces in her hands, before placing two in her bush. Salsa then walked up to a little girl in the crowd, before giving the apples to her. "Salsa, that's correct! You can share your happiness with other people to have even more happiness!" Vinny said, this time a lot more calm. Some chuckles were starting to be heard along with some 'awws' from the crowd. Salsa returned to Vinny. "And that's our act! I hope you'll take our advice to heart! And let's not not forget, me and Salsa both hope you'll have a happy new year!" Vinny finished, as he and Salsa bowed to the audience. Then Vinny and Salsa waved at the audience, smiling before heading off stage.

| How is it that I've fallen in love with you? How can it hurt this much? Never before have I ever wanted someone this much. If I say I miss you about a thousand times, will it reach you? If I try crying and fussing, will you know my feelings? |
● waiting, contemplating... @tag / dun dun dun DA! / 1,071 The original plan (at least to Andrea) was to find a simian mascot in order for her to gain additional points for sticking to the theme of the Spring Festival; but her search had turned up nothing. Instead, she decided to go for something she’d never done before—by turning to her Roselia, Sakuya. What she didn’t realize until they’d began practicing together in the days leading up to the opening round was that the flowers that were her Roselia’s ‘hands’ weren’t the standard colors of red and blue (nor even the shiny coloration which was green and a dark shade of violet); instead they were this shade of cherry blossom pink, reminiscent of the trees she’d seen in Ecruteak while she was on her ‘training journey’ looking for the Dojo that was located in Cianwood. Well, if I don’t get any points for sticking to the theme, might as well make my appeal with a flourish… she thought to herself, quickly adjusting the dress she had on—it was a bit of a tight fit, but considering what she already had planned, the ‘dress’ she had on was a must. After she’d heard the raucous cheering coming from outside, one of the stage hands then approached her and then pointed at the stage, before saying, “You’re up, Miss Benoit… good luck,” before she gave a quick nod and then pointed at the tech room; in order to give them the cue. She was going to go for something a bit unconventional, but Arceus be damned, if it was an appeal they wanted, it was an appeal they were going to get…!Once the previous performer had cleared off the stage, the female presenter then began her cue, setting the stage for her. “And now, for our next contestant! She may be familiar to some of you who’ve watched her performances; the master of the staff who hails from the Kalos region, Andrea Benoit!”Right then and there, the lights went out. Of course, the people were surprised as well; and some had cried out of shock; others were surprised at the sudden turn of events. The young Coordinator then made her way towards the center of the stage in the darkness, before the spot light turned on, revealing her standing there, seemingly alone. As the crowd adjusted to the sudden flash of light, she then bowed to the general audience in greeting, before quietly turning on the lapel she had clipped to her ‘dress’. Her attire was black, something completely out of theme with the general explosion of red that the holiday embodied—but she had a perfectly good reason for pulling off this move. Once the murmurs had settled down, she then began, “In most cultures wearing black is a sign of mourning, but today, it isn’t so. Today, we all come together to celebrate the Lunar New Year, and with this…” she trailed off, beginning to twirl on the spot so that her black dress flared out in front of her, “…I show you how me and Sakuya celebrate this momentous occasion!”Her slow turn became faster and faster—if they’d care to notice what was going on, the black was seemingly shredding, falling away, wilting around her—and underneath she wore a dress of such fiery crimson, it was shimmering under the spotlight. During the same time she’d pulled out the trickery, she’d quickly employed some sleight of hand, and the whirling became faster and faster—and a sudden explosion of pink petals emanated out from where she stood! At the same time the moment the petals had burst out and were now falling all around her, she then dropped the last few shredded ‘pieces’ of her dress, and revealed her companion Pokémon, a Roselia—the source of the sudden shower of pink, fragrant-smelling petals that were now raining down around her—and across the stage into the crowd as well. “We want to start the year right; with the sights we’ve seen, the scents we’ve smelled—“ she trailed off, and an aromatic smell began to waft around the area; courtesy of her Roselia’s Sweet Scent— “and the experiences we’ve picked up on, we want to share them with you!” she continued, flinging out her arms in a flourish, fully exposing the crimson-red dress she had on—there were semiprecious stones sewn right into the fabric, which caught the light and sparkled as she reached behind her back, seemingly pulling out her collapsible staff from out of thin air and throwing it into the air, where both ends suddenly burst into flame. “We want to spread happiness! To cheer everyone up! To remind you all that a new year brings with it new beginnings, new experiences, new chances for prosperity; and most of all—new memories! Let the fire of a new start inspire you!” she continued, slowly coming to a stop from the earlier spinning as her voice rang out; before another blizzard of petals began to rain out across the stage and into the crowd. As the staff began its descent, the Roselia then twirled on the spot, a warm glow coming from her body. A sudden burst of sunshine emanated from the Grass-type’s body, and as Andrea caught the staff—with some sleight of hand trickery—seemingly made her weapon vanish into nothingness, leaving the two ‘floating’ tips that were still alight seemingly floating in mid-air! “Let the fire of change and growth burn within you; let it shape you, build you from the ground up, and help you grow together—because I know me and Sakuya did! Have a prosperous Lunar New Year, and may the Monkey bless you with all the luck it can shower upon everyone present!” she ended, spreading her hands and flourishing them above her. What was a bit surprising at this point were the scattering red petals seemingly coming from her hands; that then interspersed with the pink ones that were still raining down on the stage. She knew that having some ‘magic tricks’ in her presentation would work wonders (having learned that from a previous competition she’d been a part of) and hoped that her quick sleight of hand added more bang to her initial appeal! Once she was done, both she and her Roselia then went backstage, in order to watch the rest of the appeals that were going to be made by their fellow competitors.

[attr="class","icon"] | It was the year of the monkey, and Honoka had decided to enter the contest that appeared. She was most confident about the battle phase, but she had to get there, first. She sat backstage as she watched person after person perform in the Appeals round. Her Pokemon beside her was restless, excited. It was something different than their norm, and both trainer and Pokemon were excited for this. She didn't care whether she won or lost, as fun as winning would be. That didn't mean she wan't going to give it her all, though.
Watching all of the other trainers perform was amazing. Everyone had their own style, and she felt confident her own would be popular, if the crowd liked everyone else's different styles, too. Five had gone before her, and soon it would be her turn. She kept going over her routine in her mind, making sure she wouldn't miss a single step. It wasn't complicated, but messing up would be terrible. Honoka felt her whole being vibrate with excitement when they called her name.
"The daughter of Kalos' regions Sato Farms joins us next. Lets see if she can stun us with her performance as much as her family stunned the breeding world in Kalos! Here to amaze us with a new set of skills, Honoka Sato!"
That was their cue. Honoka jumped up and started running toward the stage. Her Dratini knew jutsu what to do, and threw an Aqua Tail at the girl. She caught the flow of the water and let it propel her high into the air and out onto the stage, the water glittering in the air around her like little diamonds sparkling around her. She landed center stage with ease, one foot in front of the other, her legs slightly crossed, arms up in a 'look at me world, here i am' pose. Her Dratini slithered up gracefully beside her, a Sneasel riding on its back, and her Swablu used a Moonblast above the four as it flew out with Honoka, the blast of moonlight breaking apart the water left in the air, making everything sparkle around them. Each of her Pokemon was wearing a costume related to the Year of the Monkey and its theme. Dratini was decorated with bits of gold and painted on its back was the character for wealth "富". On the Sneasel was a white coat and headband, making it look much akin to a samurai type thing, the characters for auspiciousness on the back of the red jacket in gold "吉兆". And the swablu had a flag tied around its middle with happiness written on it in red "幸福".
"Looks like you guys are all heated up out here? How about we cool you off a bit?" The crowd echoed her excitement, and a wide smile blazed on her face. A rhythmic drumbeat resounded, filling the arena and everyone's ears with the deep sound. Honoka begun to dance, floating over the floor as if she were flying like the swablu bu her side. She danced with her Dratini, the Pokemon twirling and coiling around her as she moved, the two flowing in perfect sync. If you asked which one was the snake and which the charmer, you wouldn't have been able to give a definite answer. Her purple tailed dress spun with her as she moved, flowing like the water around them.
When Honoka kicked as she danced, her Sneasel would use metal claw on the water on the stage, the two making the droplets sparkle in the light. When she jumped, her Swablu would follow her movements in great loops and leaps in the air, sometimes giving her a slight boost to make her fly higher into the air. The four moved as once, every step and jump and twirl perfectly synced. Honoka began to slow her movements as the drum beats picked up speed, the music coming to a climax. at the end, she stopped in a pose similar to the one she entered with. Her Sneasel cast Ice Shards around her, making great chunks of ice jut up from the ground around her like she was the center of it. Her Swablu and Dratini combines a Moonblast and Aqua tail to break the ice, creating snow that flew way out over the audience from the ice.
"I hope you all have a wonderful new year!" Honoka waved to the cheering crowd as she ran back stage with her Pokemon.

This... This contest was even bigger then the one he had hosted! Wearing a black suit with a black tie, the blonde haired Trainer and aspiring actor stared out at the bright lights and the large cheering audience with a wide eyed look, in shock and awe. The contest he'd help host and judge had been a lot smaller then this, and he had to admit he was nervous. He allowed himself to breathe as he sat down at the judge's table. This was just like last time, Josh, just like last time but without the hosting duties... Come on, put on a brave face... Alright. Let's get down to business! -------------------------------------- A man announced by the name of Rosario Grandier would step out in blue, gold and white, and the Trainer of several years, as well as one of today's judges, would watch curiously as the performance began. He'd brought an Aipom with him, dressed just as much as he was, and a grin escaped Josh's lips. And now, the performances would begin... Josh had to admit, the man was creative. He'd used every way possible to keep in the theme, from the goofy banana monkey faces that sprouted from the Pokeball, to their Pokemon choice, to even the marks on it's face. It was a good start, but he watched carefully the man's performance to see if the rest could live up to first impressions... As the shooting stars went down and the crowd gave their last ovation to the efforts of Rosario and Aipom, Dragomir would clap as well, his eyes shimmering in awe from the show. Brimming brown eyes shined bright as he had a big smiled plastered across his face. Once his fellow judge had spoken, the Judge would stand up and speak. There was finally confidence in his eyes... He was calm, relaxed. The show may not be about him, but he would be damned if he didn't give the show the praise it deserved. Josh was always blunt and honest, which was probably why he was picked to begin with. "I gotta admit, I'm impressed!" He would remark toward Rosario, a handsome, confident grin crossing his lips. It was almost as though the formerly shy blonde-haired Trainer had changed completely... "Your creativity is stunning, I loved every moment of it. I honestly loved how much you were able to incorporate the theme, from your choice of seal, to your Pokemon, to even going so far as to apply markings" The Judge would explain. "It was a great show, make no mistake about it, and I'm looking forward to seeing you in the next two rounds. But being a Judge means it's my job to give the good.... The bad, and the ugly. Make no mistake about it, your performance was great. But there wasn't a whole lot of interaction with the crowd, and a lot of times, it felt like you were playing it safe. You had a great blend of simple and sweet but creative at the same time, but you didn't take a whole lot of risk, in my eyes. You played it safe, which can be smart at times, but others it becomes noticeable. Ambition, thinking big, a desire to put on a great show and executing it to perfection, these are things a performer should have on mind. Execution-wise? You did amazing. I will never run out of words to praise you with, but ambition is something that can make or break" Josh would add. "What I can say is.... I -really- look forward to watching you in the Performance Round." -------------------------------------- Arietta Connally was announced to be next, and he recognized her from the contest he had hosted back in Nue, causing a small smile to drift across his lips as he would plant his elbows on the table while he sat down, his chin rested on his palms. Immediately, he would grin wide when she would show up in... A monkey suit! Her Mawile had been decked out in monkey accessories as well, getting a laugh from the judge. Her speech was passionate, every vocal point brought to exclamation with a move. When it was over, Josh would wait for the clapping to cease before speaking first. "I loved your speech, Arietta. It was passionate, wild, untamed like the raging fire that you compared to the monkey. Your timing was on point, you used the themes well, and your performance was great. At the same time, of course, it's like I said to Rosaaarrrrrrrrriooo before" He would begin, intentionally rolling his R's for a bit of comedy, drawing a bit of a laugh from the crowd. "Ambition. Burning ambition. A lack of fear to go big and leave a big impression. Make no mistake about it, sweetheart, nobody will forget about the girl in the monkey suit tonight... But it was a little too little, especially compared to what I've seen in the past, as well as what I've seen here already. But you left me wanting more. And I'm hoping I'll see that when the Battle and Performance Rounds come around" He would explain with a heartwarming smile. ---------------------------------- Oh, he couldn't help but smile as his friend Yumi Tasukai was announced. He'd almost forgotten she was participating, she hadn't really talked about it to him or Izumi. But he couldn't be biased here... Yumi knew he wouldn't be. If anything, he might just be her harshest critic when it came right down to it. He was brutally honest... And she knew that. Josh knew before Yumi even brought out her Pokemon just who she was using. Ko-Ken... It made, sense, after all. If he ever participated in a contest, and surely, the idea had crossed his mind... He would likely use Lightning. There was a chemistry that came with close partners like that, and Yumi had the right idea to use that to it's fullest extent. He couldn't help it. He couldn't stop himself from laughing his ass off when the Sawk dragged the hostess away. He buried his face in his folded arms on the table for a moment to try and compose himself. Oh Ko-Ken... Why, how, did he expect any less? The initial confusion of the crowd was shared by him, but he knew one thing that they did not.... Never underestimate Yumi Tasukai. By the end of her performance, he could only smile. He would take the microphone at the judge's table, try to speak into it, bat at it irritably a few times when it didn't work and was about to headbutt it before it finally started working. "Ahem... Foof, testing, testing. God damnit, it really is the year of the monkey if we have actual monkeys operating the tech side of things.... Anyway, marvelous! High drama, tension, interaction with the crowd, all of it! Yumi, I could kiss you, that had me so on the edge of my seat... But I won't. Because nobody wants to see that. But what people are going to want to see is your go at the Performance round. Your ideas were creative, you kept us on the edge of our seat, and while it was a little bit short, you had us going from "Huh?" to cheering and loving every minute of it. You weren't afraid to take a big risk, and trust me, that was a big one. Your style is unorthodox, but that can be a good thing at times. You left me wanting to see a little more, but overall, I loved it. I'm curious about what you're going to bring to the Battle and Performance Rounds." --------------------------------------- Vinny Pugliesi was announced next and... Hey, wasn't that the kid from before? Josh sure hoped his performance skills were better then his self defense skills. But he remembered the kid. Vinny. Vinny got rekt by the alphabet... And by that guy with the Weavile too. But perhaps he was a dancer and not a swordsman? We would just have to see. Wait.... Hip Hop Lord? "Oh. My. God."That was the first thing he muttered, but decided to see just what this was all about. The act itself was kind of goofy, it reminded him of Arietta's act, but less passionate, less confident... It didn't have the adorableness factor of Arietta, but it also showed Vinny's own style. As it ended, he would let the cheering end before speaking. "I liked your performance, you kept up with the theme, and while I'll admit your performance was a bit goofy, it also showed your unique style" He would explain with a light chuckle. "I'll admit that it had me laughing. It had the audience chuckling a bit too. That's good, so long as it's done in certain ways. I think your biggest detriment though, is your lack of confidence. If you're not confident, your Pokemon won't be either. That's a big part of being a Trainer, a Coordinator or any line of work where you work alongside Pokemon. You need to believe in yourself... And you need to believe in your Pokemon. It's clear that you and Pansage have a bond... Use it! Make use of it! I'll point you toward Miss Tasukai, who clearly has a deep bond with her Sawk and her other Pokemon as well. She used that, to her full advantage. She was confident, she believed in the abilities of her Pokemon and in her own, and she succeeded for it. For the performance round, I want you to keep that in mind, because I see a lot of potential. Good luck!" ---------------------------------------------- Josh had heard of Andrea Benoit but didn't know her personally. Was she a friend of Izumi Yamamura or something? He wasn't sure. Regardless, he was pretty sure she was also at the last contest... So he was curious what she would bring to the table. When it ended, Josh had to admit he was intrigued... Lunar Year, instead of Year Of The Monkey.... Ambitious. Risky. She'd thrown a lot of the stops to make up for the fact that she hadn't used the theme almost at all. Still... He would bat the microphone a few times before even saying anything. This time, it worked. He knew sending Lightning to mind the tech crew after that last issue was a good idea... "Wonderful! It was wonderful, all I can really say! Your dance was beautiful, your performance mysterious but fun all the same. But in the end... You didn't abide by the theme. Your performance really did help make up for it, and I gotta admit that it takes a lot of.... Well..." Don't say balls. Don't say balls. Don't say balls. "... Guts, to pull off something like that. Not using the theme almost at all could have cost you the entire round, but you were willing to risk it to put out the best performance you could. So color me impressed, sweetheart. Your performance was colorful, mystical, I couldn't keep my eyes off it. Just... Try and abide by the theme in the Performance Round, please?" ------------------------ Josh had no clue who @honokasato was, so he didn't know what to expect. But perhaps that was for the best... As it ended, Josh had gone from hot to cold, literally, as he was soaking wet. "You know, if I had a fedora, I would be mad at you for ruining a perfectly good fedora" The Judge would cheekily joke. "But regardless, I loved the choice of outfits for you and your Pokemon. It was clear that you picked them out well and kept with the theme, and the idea behind your performance was good. I honestly wanted to see a little more, it was a little short. But that's why we have the performance round, darling. Keep that in mind, and I think you'll do well in the next few rounds." ----------------------- With that finished, he would take a deep breath when it was time to go to intermission. He needed some air... And a drink. But he couldn't drink yet. Or ever. Izumi would kill him.
